5 Unexpected Ways to Add Flowers at Your Wedding

One of the most effective ways to transform a space and make your wedding stand out is by placing flowers in unique or uncommon areas. As a wedding florist, I love collaborating with my couples to brainstorm creative ways of bringing that floral magic into their special day. From your attire to the reception, adding a touch of flowers’ natural beauty here and there can go far toward elevating the guest experience. So, without further ado, here are five unexpected places to add flowers to your wedding!

Unexpected Ways to Add Flowers

Welcome Table

Your welcome table is your guests’ first introduction to your wedding, so why not add flowers there as a beautifying touch? I love it when my clients invest thought and intention into this space. Our clients experiment with a variety of unique tabletop designs and installations from offering welcome drinks from a table covered in floral installations to setting the scene with coastal grasses that accent a table of care packages to beat the heat during the ceremony.

Seating Chart

Always, always, always play up the seating chart! This is a simple area to add a garland of flowers or a ground arrangement, transforming a simple piece of posterboard or acrylic into a special piece that builds on your guests’ experience.

Bar

Bar flowers are incredibly underrated! I always encourage my couples to invest in this area because their guests see it up close, repeatedly throughout the evening. Many couples repurpose ground arrangements from their ceremony here, but investing in something designed specifically with the bar in mind can enhance the guest experience in a big way.

The bar is also perfect for incorporating unexpected elements like potted plants. I love working with these because they fill a space and make it look lush. Plants also have weight, which is always nice in Texas where the wind can be unpredictable! I recommend placing potted plants in unique vessels over traditional options like bud vases and urns. It’s a great opportunity to have fun with your design and colors!

Flower Lapel

Of all the unexpected places to add flowers, lapels are a personal favorite! A personalized spray of flowers is the perfect way to add statement-making impact to the groom’s, best man’s, or bride’s attire (or anyone who will wear a suit!). Adding an extra-large corsage or other wrist adornment is another unique, wearable moment for those wearing gowns.

Cake

Dress up that cake! Cake cutting is a time-honored tradition and although the cake styles and sizes have changed, with clients often option for small cutting cakes and a variety of other dessert options for guests, this sweet moment continues to be a highlight at most weddings.

Whether the cake is big or small there are so many ways to make this tradition extra special with a floral accent. A few ideas we love, flowers surrounding the base of your cake, quirky and whimsical flowers attached in nontraditional ways, floral accents for your cake cutting cutlery and edible flower patterned designs across the whole cake.

Flowers are inherently interactive, and by adding them in unexpected places, you can create a true sensory delight for your wedding guests. Our team would love to work with you to transform your wedding venue into a floral oasis! We invite you to open the door to experiencing our unparalleled service and flower-first approach by inquiring today.
